Dec. 27, 2010

Hey!
So I hear you guys are still in Echo...probably stayed up all night cackling away, which means you didn´t have time to write to your daughter...but that´s ok I understand ;)
It was so good talking to everyone on christmas! I felt like I had been there with you all. Well Christmas here was really good. We made dinner Christmas Eve and had a gift exchange, it was lots of fun! For dinner we made chicken, rolled in corn flakes and seasoning(it was delicious!) potato salad, rice, farofa, grape juice mixed with sprite and then we had a delicious dessert that one of the members made for us. I got the recipe and will have to make it for you guys when I get home...it´s amazing! TAlked to you guys on christmas, had a christmas program that night at the stake center where some of us missionaries sang and played the piano and I saw a couple members from my last area that came to the program so it was good to talk to them for a little bit. So Christmas was really good and we were taken care of pretty well. We have so many treats in our house now, it´s unbelievable! Here they have this bread with chunks of chocolate, it´s really good...but within two days we had received 7! We gave one to some elders to have in their house, one to an old man in the street that we always see and we still have more in our house plus popcorn, candy, cookies, etc, etc...but it´s christmas time right? Only comes one time a year...thank heavens!
Well, not much else has changed since I talked to you guys and I pretty much told you everything. Hope all is well and you had a good time in Oregon. Give everybody a big hug for me. I love and miss you!!!

Dec. 20, 2010

Hey!
Yep so I got transferred to the big city! It´s different, but I´m liking it so far. We were teaching a family this past week and they are golden! They got baptized yesterday and it was so amazing! They are so happy! Carlos and Patricia, they have two little boys and the oldest got baptized, Rodrigo. The younger one still has to wait a few years, Daniel, but the baptism was so special. Carlos had asked what they can do to help their boys prepare for missions! THis is honestly one special family!

So this area is about 25 minutes away from my last. And yes my comp is brasilian. We are working in a trio for now with sister gonzaga. The reason it´s this way is because there is an odd number of sisters so what president will do is find a member to work with sister gonzaga in her area. So it would be like going on splits, but she will stay with sister gonzaga...if that makes sense.

So the pictures I sent are from the day we all went to the beach with President and Sister Batt. It was so much FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright, so I will be calling friday to make sure the phone works and confirm the time I will be calling. My plan is to call saturday at 10:00am your time, so it will be 2:00pm here in brasil. Friday I will be calling in the morning, most likely 7:00am your time. So please answer the phone!!!! :) And keep the phone free so I can get through to you.

I got my birthday packages! THank you so much. I´m pretty sure everything was in there. the big box got opened at customs, my guess is because of the weight. And one bag of hot cheetos had opened but I´m thinking because of the pressure it got popped open. But thank you so mcuh for everything. And my comps love the hand soap! :) I´m still waiting for the christmas packages but i´ll probably get them this week.

Quick question...someone here said they heard on the news that the tabernacle was on fire or something, i don´t know just something that I heard, just wondering if you heard anything....???

Oh and somehitng crazy, we had lunch at a members house the other day and she´s a WALKER!!!!!! Not sure if she´s related to any of the walkers in othello but she said that her family came from New England, thought that was pretty interesting. Her first name is Aida, maybe you could ask the walkers there if they have any relatives that they know of here in brasil.

Oh mom I forgot to tell you! When I was in my last area my neighbors were trying a diet, guess what it was...????? The soup diet!!!!!!!! I couldn´t believe it! I just laughed when I heard that, I told them that we all tried it and good luck! i thought it was pretty funny.

Well, I hope you all have a Feliz Natal and I can´t wait to talk to you guys on christmas! I love you and miss you very very much!!!!

Love, Sister Salisbury

ps don´t forget to tell brett the time I´ll be calling!

Dec. 13, 2010

Hey!
So lately it has been crazy! Transfers were today and we were up til midnight packing and got up early today to finish. Me and my comp both got transferred to differnet areas. I am now in Monte Castelo with Sister Corrêa and Sister Gonzaga! Sister Corrêa is my actual comp and we live together with Sister Gonzaga(my trainer and first comp) so i was happy that we´re together again. We´ll be in a trio for a little bit until they find a member that can work with her. I don´t know exactly what will happen, but as for now we´re in a trio. So Monte Castelo is right next to the ocean, it´s beautiful! We´re in the city so it´s a bit different to what I´m used to, but it will be good.

Alright so I woke up this morning not thinking it was my birthday, but my comp had a present sitting on my desk with a card she had written...which was sweet of her. Then we had a ton of people at our house to see us off. Everybody was crying...I wanted to stay there at least one more transfer, I absolutely loved it there! I hope to get called back to that area some time later on in the mission. So all of this was going on and I completly forgot about my birthday. I got here in my new area and we went to get lunch and I was talking with my comp getting to know her more and she said she had her birthday last month and then at that moment I remembered and I said...."Oh yeah it´s my birthday today", and i laughed. They got all excited and started making plans to do all these things. But anyways, thank you all for the birthday wishes! i love you all so much, thank you!

So the reason I didn´t write a lot last week was because we had our P-Day with our zone. It was SOOOOOOO much fun! We had a bbq, played soccer, volleyball, celebrated a birthday for one of the elders had cake and ice cream, watched a movie and had a blast!!!!! I played so much volleyball and i knew i was going to regret it the next day....i was SO SORE! But I had a lot of fun!

So my comp now is the sister that was companions with the girl Stephanie Ririe is training...if that makes sense, it´s hard to explain things in english now :( but i guess that´s a good sign, right? The language is getting so much better, i still need to improve A LOT, but I´m glad I keep having brasilian comps because it helps so much!

I still don´t know when I´ll be calling you for christmas, but don´t worry I´m pretty sure I´ll be calling to tell you what time and everything and then I´ll call christmas day.
Today has been so strange, lots of things going on: birthday, transfers, new comps, goodbyes and it´s actually not pday today because president is taking us to the beach this friday for christmas. But he gave us permission to email. It was raining so much this morning too....very strange day! But it´s getting better.

Well, I hope all is well at home and I´ll be talking to you in 12 DAYS!!!!!!!! I can´t wait!!!!! I love you and hope you guys have a good week! Love and miss you!

November 29, 2010

Hey!

ALright so after seeing the picture of Sister Costa I remember. She´s from a ward in Aracati, she was a local missionary with one of the sisters here in my mission, because we have an odd number of sisters. I met her once at a zone conference. It really is a small ward! Crazy!

Connell is going to STATE!!! THat is so awesome, I´m so happy for them. I´m so proud of chandler and all the hard work that he does. It´s hard not being able to be there to support him, but it´s good to hear that they´re having success.

So how are my little bros doing....garrett and joey?!?! Haven´t heard from you guys in awhile, but I can´t complain because I´m not the best at emailing everybody back...sorry :(

So Brett is coming over tonight for FHE?! That´ll be fun to hear about the mission! Take pictures!! Mmm and orange chicken, i was actually craving that the other night! Be sure to have dessert too :)

Well, I haven´t gotten any packages yet, but my guess is they´ll be getting here in a couple weeks. And don´t worry about sending more sandals. If it gets to the time where I´m walking on rocks I´ll find something here that´ll work. Some of the sisters have gotten some sandals here so it´s all good.

Well, I´ll definately be praying for chandler and the team this week. Hope all is well and you have a great week! I love you all and am so glad to be a part of this family. It wasn´t until the mission that I realized how important family really is. You don´t realize what you have, until it´s gone....but this time is so short and incomparable to the time we have after. I love you so much and miss you bunches! The church is true!

November 22, 2010 (with pics)

Hey everybody!

Thanks for all the emails that I´m getting! And guess what?! I´m able to send pictures now! I have a cd of pictures and I tried sending them last week, but it wouldn´t work, but now it is so hope you enjoy the pics!

Wow this week was tough....physically, emotionally, and mentally. But it´s over now I´m doing good. We had zone conference this week and it was amazing! I really needed that. And before I forget (because I forgot to write it last week) Happy (late) Anniversary mom and dad!!! Hope you two were able to find some time and go out to eat :)

BRETT IS HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can´t believe it!!!!!! It sounds like he did good on his talk and he´s thinned out a little ;) Oh I´m sure it was so good to see him. Too bad he missed the fotball game. But he´ll get to see the next few. You´ll have to tell me all about it when he comes over to the house. I´m anxious to hear from him since he´s been home.

Alright mom, so Sister Costa. Is she from our ward in Basin City? i don´t remember the last name Costa, what is her first name??

Alright, so we´ve been working with this family; Carlos and Regina and their 4 kids, Clara, Antonio Carlos, Jeovah and Lucas. We taugh them all the lessons and Regina and the kids were crazy to get baptized, but we went there one night to visit and the dad had totally changed. He has a drinking problem and he didn´t want anything to do with the church. So sunday comes around and he wouldn´t let them go to church. So we kept in contact with them throughout the week and we had the elders come saturday to have interviews with them for baptism. He talked with two of the kids, the others had forgotten about it and had already left. So afterwards we talked with the elder and he said that the kids really want to be baptized but the dad won´t let them. It´s really sad. So we went there later that night to talk with the dad. He went crazy on us and said that he´s catholic and he´ll die catholic and if his family has respect for him they won´t be baptized. He said he likes to drink, likes to have fun and he won´t be restrained from doing things....his reasons for not joining andletting his family join. We couldn´t do anything more, we taught them everything, we explained everything for them, bore testimony...both me and my comp were crying. I left the house crying it was so hard to leave like that. I gave Regina a big hug and just held on to her. I felt so bad because here is this mother and 4 kids who know the church is true, have desires to be baptized and they can´t. It was really hard, but the time isn´t right. I know that one day they´ll be members of the church. This experience made me once again realize how hard Satan is working against us, but how much stronger we can be.

Well, I need to wrap this up. HOpe all is well at home and you guys have a good week. Good luck boys in football and congrats joey for the award you got at school!!!! i love you all and can´t wait to talk to you guys at christmas! i love and miss you!!!!

Love,
Sister Salisbury

November 15, 2010

Hey!

Mom just to let you know I tried sending some pics last week, but I´m guessing it didn´t go through. I´m thinking my memory card has a virus because it´s not opening up any pictures which is REALLY bad, because I have a lot of pictures! I have the worst luck with pictures! But anyways I´ll try again today, not sure I´ll be able to get them though, sorry :( BUt keep checking your email today and see if you get any.

Well this past week was good and tiring! Had a lot of investigators come up out of nowhere, which is good i guess, but we running all over the place. The primary program was yesterday and it was SOOOO GOOD! The kids were so cute! I played the piano for both wards. It went really well.

Wow, so Brett gets home this week! I can´t believe it, it feels as if he just left yesterday. Make sure you talk to him for me :) and I´m sure he´ll be at the game on saturday!

Well, sorry this is so short, but I´m going to try to get these pictures to send. If you don´t get them from this email I´ll try sending them from my hotmail account, I´m not supposed to use it but I´lll try both to try to get the pics to you.

I love you all and hope you have a good week!!!!!!

November 8, 2010

Hey!

So this week was CRAZY! First week of a new change, well it wasn´tquite a change, me and my companion stayed together for anothertransfer in the same area...which I was really excited about, but atthe same time I felt kind of bad for her because she really wants achange of scenery. She´s been here for 6 months already! This is thelongest I´ve been with the same comp. Most likely I´ll stay one moretransfer after this one and then head out to a new area. We have zoneconference in a couple weeks so I´m really excited about that!

That´s exciting about Addi! Are they pretty serious? Is it anyonethat I might know? Well the last letter that I got from Brett he saidhe had mixed feelings about going home. He said he absolutely lovesthe people and he´ll for sure miss them. He also said that he wasn´tthat excited to go home either because I wasn´t going to bethere...and yes of course I have been writing him :) And I thinkthat´s a good idea for you to do that mom when he gets home, pleaseplease please tell him hi for me, and I´ve waited for that to day tosee him come home (now it´s here, but I´m in another country) and thatI´m thinking of him (you can tell him that I love him too, but only ifyou want :)

My leg is fine, it´s bothered me only a couple times when I staystanding for too long it starts to get sore, but it´s only happened acouple times. ANd it still has a bruise, nothing super big, but itreally hasnt gone down at all, at least in my opinion anyways. It´ssmaller though than when it first started. BUt I´m fine, no need toworry over it.

So i have to tell you, I started the Book of Mormon again and I´m inMosiah. I was reading chapter two, and I absolutely love it! It´s whenall the people were gathering at the temple to hear King Benjaminspeak. THey built a tower so that more people could here. And as I wasreading I was thinking as if it was a general conference. He wasspeaking to the people, but there were still so many that couldn´thear that he sent people to write what he was saying and then sendingit out to the people that couldn´t hear him. ANd then I thought abouthow we receive the ensign with the conference talks. It was so intriguing (sp) I just wanted to keep reading. But anyways he wastalking about how the Lord promises us that we will be blessed if wekeep the commandments of God. He mentions this many times in hisspeach and that God has given us everything and that we should thankhim for all that he´s given. I absolutely love it, you should read it,it´s so good! I´m going to finish reading it tonight!

Well fam, my time is up...I want you to know how much I love you andappreciate all the love and support that you give me! I am so blessedto be a part of this family! I couldn´t have asked for anythingbetter. I also want you to know that I know this is the only truechurch upon the whole face of the earth. And because one young boy,who had enough faith to pray to his Father in Heaven, we are blessedto be members of the Church of Jesus Christ. I am so glad I have theopportunity to serve my Father in Heaven and to be serving here inBrasil. I love you all and hope you have a GREAT week!

I love you!

Christmas Missionary Newsletter

Oí!

How are all you missionaries doing? For those of you who don´t know I´m here serving in the Brasil Fortaleza Mission. As of right now (November), I´ve been out eight months. I don´t know about you, but for me the time has flown by! It´s been a great experience so far and I´ve grown so much. A mission is such a blessing, for the missionary and those you are serving.

So a little bit about my mission. Brasil Fortaleza is a huge city next to the beach with a population of 2.5 million people, located Northeast of Brasil. My first area, Baturité, is about a 3 hour bus ride from Fortaleza and is located up in the mountains. It was a great experience, they have a small branch of about 100 members with 40-45 attending regularly. It was a lot of work to serve there, but I absolutely loved it. I made some wonderful friends and met some of the most kindest, loving people I´ll ever meet. I´m now in Metrópole and I´ve been here three transfers now with the same companion. I love her and my area! Me and my companion are over two wards and they´re great! It´s like being back at home. We´ve had really good success here, but had some hard times as well. I think one of the hardest things as being a missionary is getting people to come to church. You work, work, work all week with investigators and then comes Sunday and the people don´t want to go. Being a missionary takes a LOT of faith! But we truly receive blessings as we show our faith to our Heavenly Father. Like it says in Ether 12:6- "for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith." We have to be willing and faithful to work before we get what we want. Henry B. Eyring once said, "Faith is not hope. Faith is not simply to know God could do something. Faith is to know that He will." This is TRUE faith.

Something I´ve realized here on the mission is that the Lord works in His own time. I had an experience my first transfer here in this area. We were teaching these three family members and a friend of theirs about the Restoration. After the lesson we asked them if they would read the pamphlet and pray about it. They all said yes except for one of the family members. He´s 16 years old and his name is Wesley. He straight up said no and didn´t want to continue with the lessons. His aunt told us that he´s very arrogant with the "mormons". But we saw him and his family quite often because they live right above us. Time went by and we would always say hi and ask how they were doing and we became really good friends with all the family. More time went by and I´m into my next transfer. We´re heading back to our house for the night and our other neighbor, who is a member, tells us that Wesley went to seminary! We couldn´t believe it, it was a miracle! So the next day we´re teaching a different family member (you would think they would decide to learn about the church all at once, but no they like to do it one by one :) and Wesley sits in on the lesson. At the end, we invite Wesley to be baptized and he said yes! We were so excited and the next day he tells us he bought a little notebook to take notes at general conference. He had changed so much, I couldn´t believe it. He also told us that he couldn´t make it to the Saturday session because he had to work, but would be there Sunday for sure. And the next Sunday he was baptized. I know without a doubt that when we are keepíng the commandments, following the mission rules and striving to be the missionary we were called to be, we will see the blessings and miracles that come from our hard work. I found a quote the other day that I love which says, "Pray as is everything depended on God and then work as if everything depended on you." -Francis Cardinal Spellman....I know that I´ve found myself at times ask for help in some things and maybe not done my part as I should´´ve, but when I work hard and do my part I can see the blessings and help from the Lord.

Wherever you missionaries might be, whether it be in a hick town, the big city, foreign country, the good ol´ MTC or packing your bags; we "are servants of the Most High God, with a testimony to bear, truth to teach, and souls to save." -President Thomas S. Monson...Never forget that!
Be faithful and diligent in doing the work of the Lord. I am happy to say that I am a servant of the Most High God-what a blessing! Not just for me, but for those I am helping to come unto Christ and receive eternal life.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas!!! May we all remember the importance of this special day, the birth of our loving brother, Savior, and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

I wish you all the best!

With love,

Sister Salisbury

Hey!

Sounds like you guys had a good primary program!!! And guess what?! IfI stay through this next change I´ll be playing for the primaryprogram in both of the two wards we´re over! I´ve been practicing withthem. and they´ll be singing I Know My Savior Loves Me, too! I lovethat song! Oh mom, I got the newsletter and all the weddingannouncements! THank you so much, and the picture of chandler and mattin the othello game! I love it! It´s hanging up on my wall :) And theguys beat ROYAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :) How was it?! Did chandler dogood?? I want to hear how it went! And yes I saw the temple issue inthe ensign. It is so neat, i haven´t had time to read it, but i saw itat a members house. That´s crazy there was a typhoon where colton is,did they have to be evaacuated or what? THat´s scary!Well, the girl and boy that i had talked about weren´t baptized, butwe´re working with them. Another member of their family was baptizedthough. His mom came to the baptism and the spirit was so strong. SHewas crying and thanked us so much for being a part of their family, Ican see her joining the church sometime. I don´t think it will beright away, but seeing two of her sons now baptized I think it willreally make an impression on her. And she´s already seen a big changein her oldest son.Wow, this is my last week of this transfer! I can´t believe it. NExtmonday will be a new change. Im pretty sure I´ll be staying here andmy comp will go. SHe´s been here 6months and i think she´´s ready fora change. I don´t want her to go though, i want at least one morechange with her. October 18, 2010

Hey!

How´s everyone doing?! Sounds like you guys are still staying busy. That´s cool you guys are fixing up the brown house, i didn´t know youwere doing all that stuff. It´s going to look way different by thetime i get back. Football is doing good by what I hear. I´m nervousfor you guys this friday I hope you beat royal! Has chandler beenplaying linebacker at all? All i ever hear is him playing quarterback.BUt it sounds like he´´s having a good time. THat´s good that garrettis getting opportunities to play, too bad he wasn´t there in the lastgame. The members here are pretty good about feeding the missionaries well, although we had somewhat of a funny experience happen just the otherday. IT´s funny now but at the time we were dying. So we´re heading tothe members house for lunch, which is on the other side of town. Weget there and we sit down to eat and what´s different is that thefamily doesn´t eat with you. THey´re eaither in another room doingsomething or they leave. Even the mom left the kitchen, but anyways wehave Nothing to drink, the meat tasted like dog (not sure what dogtastes like, but i really think it was dog) and they don´t havedessert. I wasn´t disappointed about the dessert, we usually are luckyif we get dessert. BUt it was quite interesting, then after we werefinished everyone comes in and we´re all talking. It´s a bit differentand it´s not usually like this all the time. But I can´t complain,it´s better than nothing and they take the time to make the meals forus and i really am greatful. Lots of times the members ask us what welike and honestly I will eat anything. BUt they like to make something"different" for us rather than beans and rice. Honestly though, i lovethe beans and rice i don´t want them to "change it up" THe meals forthe most part though are really good. Well, we had a baptismsaturday(another neighbor) and it was really neat. REmember the girland boy that we were teaching last transfer that I told you about, andthe experience we had with them? Marilia and João Victor, well I thinkthey´re going to be baptized! Marilia was talking about it last nightand now that her brother and nephew are members I think she´ll realizewhat the right choice is. THey all live in the same house and hernephew goes to seminary every night and she´s really good friends withour other neighbors and some of the kids from the ward. We´ll see whathappens this week, we´re going to talk with them. Well, i have to getgoing. Hope all is well and hope you all have a great week! I love you!!!!!!!!!!

October 11, 2010

Dear Family,

Wow, this week was absolutely a miraculous week! We had a couple baptisms come up out of nowhere, I still can´t believe it. We had a really good week though and we´ve been working really hard. 2 of ours neighbors were baptized sunday along with a girl, Carol, that lives down the road from us. We had been working with her all of last transfer. We taught her every lesson, watched just about every video that we have about the church (the restoration, by small and simple things, The Joseph Smith Movie, a video about Thomas S. Monson), but she still wasn´t ready to be baptized. She said she had felt the spirit, she read and prayed about everything, but the problem was she had been talking to a friend from another church and Carol was getting really confused with everything. So we just kept telling her to come to church and get involved with seminary. And she´s been coming to seminary a lot, she really enjoys it. Then the day that the elders came to interview our two neighbors we pulled carol out of seminary just to talk with our LZ. After he talked to her he called us in and he told carol to tell us the news....she said, "I´m getting baptized!!!" She was so excited and me and my comp couldn´t believe it!

I absolutely love it here in Metrópole, I will have a really hard time when I get transferred. I´m pretty sure though I´ll be staying this next change. My comp will make 6 months here by the first of november, so she´ll most likely get transferred. She´s only been in two areas, 6 months in the first area and then she´ll have 6 months here...she´s ready to go though, but I´m not! I love the people here, it´s like home to me, the members, the investigators, our neighbors, everyone! It´s a really neat place. Well, i gotta finish this up i don´t got much time left. I hope all is well and i love you all! Hope you guys have a good week!!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!

October 4, 2010

Shay had a baby girl and trevor and karin are moving to SLC?!?!!?!?!? Wow, i can´t believe it!!! That is so exciting :) :) :) I´m so happy for everyone right now!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well this week was great, we literally witnessed miracles this week. So two of our neighbors are members now, they were baptized last transfer and this past week something happened that we never thought would happen. Two of our neighbors that live above us are really interested in the church. One is 9 yrs old and his cousin is 16. The 16 yr old, wesley, has been going to seminary. We went every day this week! And our other neighbor, who lives with the two that are members now, José, he´s really good friends with wesley and he went to seminary as well. We had tried teaching them last transfer and they were really ignorant about "mormons" but we´re teaching them now! The other night we were heading back to our place for the night and wesley and josé were sitting on the curb. We talked a little bit and then told them good night. Then wesley called my name and told me to come here for a second. He asked me, "can two people be baptized on the same day?" I told him of course! And i was thinking, ´no way´......and then he told me they both want to be baptized! And ever since then they have been awesome as we´re teaching them. And then saturday night we were heading back from general conference and they were sitting on the curb again and wesley was so excited to talk to us, he had bought a little notebook to take notes at conference!!!! It was so awesome! Conference was so neat! It was a little harder to understand this time, but i got what i could out of it. Saturday session, as the congregation was singing Lord, I would follow thee, I felt the spirit so strong. As we were singing i sang the first two verses in english and the last two in portuguese. And when i started singing in portuguese i started to cry. It literally had hit me that i was in another country, speaking a different language and many miles from home, but then i thought...but I´m still among my brothers and sisters. I have such a love for the people of brasil. Especially here in metrópole, i feel at home here...i really feel at home. I have a second mom that lives right down the street from us and my neighbors are so wonderful and i can´t even explain the members to you. I´ve made so many friends here, i think it´s going to be much much harder to leave this area.

Well, an unfortunate event happened last night. We were at a baptism and taking pictures and there was a member taking the picture for me and somehow she deleted ALL of my pictures on the card :( i wanted to start crying. I havebad luck with pictures getting deleted :( but luckfully i had developed a lot of the photos the week before. And get this, i was going to back up all my photos on cd´s today! But i need to be grateful that i have some pictures that i developed and i have another card full of pictures starting back at the CTM, baturité and part of the area here. 3 baptisms were on the card that got deleted, and my comp doesn´t have a camera so she doesn´t have pictures from them...but anyways i´m feeling a little better now, cuz i had developed 2 of the three baptisms that were on the card so im only missing one, but anyways...well we got 3 birthday´s this week, Happy Birthday to HUNTER, BRAYDEN and SHAUN!!!!!!!!!!!! And sorry about the one´s i missed last month. I´m going to try and remember to mention birthday´s in my email´s from now on, but please forgive me if i forget :) Well, hope all is well and you´re all having a good time!!!! Good luck boys in football this week. I pray for you boys every night that you will be watched over and protected and able to play your best :) I love you all!!!!! Have a good week!:)

Olá família!

All is well here in metrópole! IT´s warming up really fast here!!! We´re going into summer now and it literally looks like a desert, and the sun is getting more hot each day, don´t worry though, i´m using sun block :) THe other day we were walking down the street and it was completely silent (it was after lunch) no one was in the street, the wind was blowing, the sun blazing hot and you look down the street and you could see the sand blowing in the wind...I felt like i was in a western movie and i was thinking of the music that you hear in a scene like this(not sure you know what i´m talking about, but it makes sense in my head :). I´m used to the heat though, i think working on the farm and being in the sun a lot helped me be more accustomed to the weather here. My comp dies though, she hates the sun and she´ll walk in any shade possible, she runs to get into the shade (and im not exagerating either) it´s quite funny really.

SO i have a few experiences to share about prayer. I have another story about losing keys(goes well with oregon coast story :) So we were grocery shopping and we headed back to the house with all our things. We get there and neither of us has the keys. We were trying to think where they could´ve fallen out. We took everything out of our bags dumped everything out, but no keys. So we left our groceries at our neighbors house and we went to retrace our steps. We stopped at a little bakery to get something to eat because we were starving and during this whole time I was praying like crazy that we´d be able to find the keys. We´re sitting at a little table and i had the thought to look in my bag again. I opened up the frint zipper and looked in a little slot that i didn´t know i had i pulled out some chap stick that had fallen down inside and underneath the chap stick were the keys! I couldn´t believe it! I was so grateful and i said another prayer thanking heavenly father for the prompting and that i found the keys. I´ve found myself praying for many things that i wouldn´t have before. I pray for everything, it´s amazing how the power of prayer works. A couple of weeks ago we had a zone p-day and the elders had told us what church building we were meeting at. We get there and the whole place is locked up. We didn´t have our cell phone, both of us had forgotten our planners which has the elders´ numbers and had no way to find out where they were. ONce again i started praying...within 3 minutes members in a car pull up, has a cell phone, and has the elders number so we could call. WE got a hold of them and the members took us to where the elders were. I know that the Lord answers prayers, and we can pray to our father in whatever situation and he will answer! So last week we were teaching one of our investigators and at the end he wanted me to talk in english, so i gave a little part of the lesson in english. You guys, i couldn´t think of half the words, it was horrible. I started to talk in english and then half the words came out in portuguese it was so weird. I guess this is a good sign!! Well i gotta go, i have more to talk about but im out of time. I love you all and hope all is well!

ariana

Olá!

Wow this week was crazy!

So we´re working with these two kids right, a girl and a boy, they´re cousins. They are honestly some of the elect! We´ve been teaching them and they just keep on progressing more and more. We have a baptism date and they were excited about and all and we warned them that now it´s really close to the baptism to stay strong and continue to read and pray every day because Satan will work his hardest to stop them from being baptized. Satan is NO JOKE people! The VERY NEXT DAY.....24 HOURS...we were already seeing a change. Friday night we taught them the 3rd lesson about the principles of the gospel. At the end of the lesson we said we wanted to move up their baptism date to sunday because they were ready. They said one more week, we thought, ok, we still need to teach them the 10 commandments, we can have family home evening with them and visit them each day (they live right above us) We said ok, and right as we agreed for the following week I had the worst feeling come over me and I though, nope this is NOT okay. The next day is when we started seeing the changes. Saturday night me and my comp were talking about them and thinking wow, a whole week and we´re seeing changes already. Then my comp says to me, "sister, right when we agreed to have their baptism next week i had a really bad feeling and felt that it needs to be this sunday".....i couldn´t believe it, i told her i had the EXACT same feeling. Right after that we went to talk to them. We told them that it´s very important for them to pray tonight(saturday night) the hardest they´ve ever prayed and ask if it be right to be baptized the following day. We told them after they say their prayer to wait and just listen for a couple minutes and that we would talk to them at church. THey said ok, we get to church and they didn´t show. We were really worried. We still are. WE´re going to talk with them though and see what´s going on. But wow! Goes to show you how hard Satan is working to keep people from having the gospel in their lives.

The language is still coming, being patient and just doing my best. We played volleyball today!!! I was super excited. I could tell I hadn´t played in awhile :( Then we played soccer afterwards...and honestly I think i played better soccer than i did volleyball. My first time actually playing REAL soccer....and i made 3 out of the 5 goals :) me and my comp played with 4 of the guys from the ward. It was lots of fun! Well i was going to send pictures this week, but the place where we usually go, the internet wasn´t working so we had to come to a place where it takes FOREVER and a day to load the pictures, so hopefully next week you´ll get the pics :) well i better go. sounds like everyone´s staying busy!!! Hope you guys have a great week! I love you all!!!!!!!

August 30, 2010

Olá! Wow this week was so amazing!!! Zone Conference was a blast! It was so good, the talks that the elders gave, President and Sister Batt did a great job, lunch was amazing. It was all so GREAT!!! And I haven´t got to the greatest part yet! After the conference, Pres. Batt had all the sisters stay and he talked to us for a couple minutes. He told us what are "plans" were afterwards: all the sisters and sister batt went to this craft store to look around at some stuff that we might want to get towards the end of our mission (it was so cool, I definitely want to go there and get a couple things) then we went to our hotel to take our stuff there adn get settled in and waited for our van to come get us. Then we headed to the temple grounds where the temple is going to be built in Fortaleza! It was so beautiful, I can´t wait for them to start building. We took pictures and all that fun stuff then went to the beach! We couldn´t go out in the sand, but we went to this pier and we were there at sunset. It was absolutely beautiful! And the ocean, oh my heavens. I got pictures! I´ll send some next week over the computer. Then we went to Pres and Sister Batt´s and had dinner....TACOS, Watermelon, Pineapple, POTATO SALAD. We were all in heaven!!!! And we made cinnamon rolls with sister batt. Then after dinner we had ice cream sundaes and rootbeer floats...with A&W brand :) Then we played games and got to know everybody then headed back to our hotel. It was so much fun! I think they did this for us because in the past they had problems with the sisters and he told us that we´ve been the best group of sisters he´s had while serving as mission president. Well, it´s definitely becoming summer weather here. It´s SO HOT!!! My tan is really coming along :) but im still wearing sun block don´t worry! And mom I think you would be really proud to know that I made CINNAMON ROLLS all by myself (I´m a big kid now ;) no but really i made them for the first time without out you telling me what to do, and I didn´t have a bosch....i used my own two hands to mix it! But.....they turned out PERFECT i was really happy :) And I´ve made a few other things, I can´t remember if I told you, but I Made tyra´s famous chocolate cake for a baptism, turned out REALLY good and today I made "Enchanted Popcorn" the one with the almond bark, i made it for FHE tonight. In portuguese it´s called Pipoca Encantada :) I´ve also learned how to make pastels, they´re really good! I think that´s it, but I´m having a really good time here in Metrópole the people are so awesome to work with, they´re very receptive and accept the gospel very well. Well I better get going. Thank you for all your love and prayers. The mission has been a real eye opener to me and has totally changed my perspective on life. I´m starting to realize a lot of things that are more important in life and wishing I would have done things different, but it´s in the past and what I´m learning now will change the way I live and look at things from now on. THis gospel is such a blessing. Chandler , Garrett and Joseph, listen to mom and dad and do what they say. Be supportive in everything and help mom and dad out with scripture study and prayers and all that. It´s so important to do all these things with the family. You might not realize it now but it´s so important and it will help and strengethn all of you. I love you all so much!!!! love, Sister Ariana Salisbury

August 23, 2010

Oi Família!!! Wow, this week was great! We had a lot of good experiences and the baptismwas so great that we had. Last week we were working with this 15 year oldnamed Lucas. We marked a baptism date for this past Sunday (yesterday) andthroughout the week he just kept on progressing it was so awesome to see thechange, just within a week! One night we went to get him for seminary so hecould go with a group of member kids and he was all ready to go and beforehe left he asked what they were studying, and the kids said The Book ofMormon and Lucas said wait a minute let me grab my Book of Mormon. Ah it wasso cool! And then the next time we went to see him he asked before westarted the lesson, what do I have to do to become a member of the church?I´ve always wanted to hear that from an investigator! Then yesterday at thebaptism his mom and sister were there and he was as happy as could be. He´sgot great member friends, a great family (which we´re starting to work withnow) and he has a strong testimony. It was a really good week for us. Themembers are great in being involved in the missionary work. The youth arealways giving us names of friends that we can visit. Help from the membersreally are such a help to us missionaries, I love being able to work withthem. My Portuguese is still coming along, I´m able to understand everyonefor the most part and converse with them somewhat J It´s progressing thoughand I´m satisfied with that, I´ve been the most patient than I´ve ever beenbefore. Thank you for all your prayers said in my behalf, I can truly seethe blessings and love from you!Mom I´m so glad my package got to you, I was so worried because I hadn´theard anything from you I´m glad you liked it and I got your package onSaturday! Thanks so much, I was so happy to see the Peanut Butter! That mademy day :) And the shirts are great, thank you and I love the colors they´rereally pretty! Kortneigh is dating Shane?!?! Wow, everyone´s going to bemarried by the time I get home. But that´s exciting! I heard Whitney wasgetting married, I got letters from Shay and the kids the same day I got thepackage and she mentioned they were going to Idaho. Kenzie and Landoncolored pictures for me and wrote me little notes it was so cute. Wow Ican´t believe Garrett is going to be in high school. He´ll have his drivinglicense when I get home, that is SO crazy to think. My little bros aregrowing up. And Joey, man they´re all going to be little studs when I gethome ;) Tell Chandler he´s a little slacker though, he hasn´t written me fora couple weeks. As for what I might need I´ll let you know next week, I´ll think about it.The clothes I brought are fine, they´re working out great...I just wish Iwould have brought more shirts and different colored skirts :) but there´s amember here that is going to make a couple skirts for me so that will benice :) and my shoes are fine as for now, all i wear are the sandals, thereain´t no way I´m wearing shoes it´s too hot. Well I better get going, hopeschool goes great this week for you boys and everything is going good foryou and dad. Dad I´ll write you next week, I need a little more time on hereto write everyone I want! Well i love you all and you´re in my prayers! Love, Sister Ariana Salisbury p.s. did i tell you there is a sister here in my mission from Othello?!Sister Risenmay, she was in my district last transfer :) Oh and this week is Zone conference and all the sisters are going to be atthe same zone conference and my mission pres is getting a hotel for us andwe´re going to stay the night in Fortaleza, just us sisters!!!! He said he´sdoing it so we can get to know all the sisters because at the other zoneconferences we were all split up into different conferences. I´m superexcited!!! :) Love you!!!! Going to play volleyball with the ward members now :)

August 16, 2010

Olá!!!!!! Well, this transfer is going GREAT so far! I absolutely love the areaand my companion! She is so sweet and we´ve had a lot of success thisweek. The people here are wonderful and the ward members are such ahelp to us. I´m realizing how critical it is to have the help andsupport from the ward members. Here in Metrópole 3/4 of our work iswith the members. They sit in on lessons with the investigators, sharetheir testimonies, take them to church with them, and involve themwith the church activities. Members can play a big part in missionarywork and I want you mom, dad, family, and those reading this to tryand think of people that the missionaries can visit. Neighbors,co-workers, anyone and everyone! And be involved with them as themissionaries teach them. You can make a big impact during theconversion process! Something else, mark a day to have themissionaries over for meals! I love eating and conversing with themembers, so mom this next sunday mark a day to have the missionariesover! And make sure you have a dessert too, that´s something Imiss...not many people here have dessert after meals, it´s sad :( So yesterday we had a baptism, João Pedro, he´s 8 year old and thecutest little thing! He´s knows so much. It was cute, we were teachinghim about the word of wisdom and before we told him the substanceswe´re not to use he named them all off. We were so surprised, but itwas cute because he just smiled and was happy that he could name themoff before we told him. Then when he came into the church buildingsunday morning he was all dressed up and carrying his Book of Mormon. It was a great sight to see :) It´s good to hear that everything is going great! I love you all somuch and hope that football goes good this week and everything at homeand on the farm is going well. I love and miss you and you all are inmy prayers! Love, Sister Ariana Salisbury

August 9, 2010

Hey! Just to let you know before hand, if I make a lot of mistakes I´msorry. I think I have the worst keyboard right now and I don´t havethe patience to go back and fix the mistakes. Anyway, well i got transferred and i have a new comp. I am now inMetrópole with Sister S. Oliveira. SHe doesn´t speak english so we´llsee how the transfer goes. She´s really nice though and I´m stillgetting used to her accent. It´s a bit different than Sis. Gonzaga´s.My new comp is from São Paulo (by the way HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRAVIS,TREVOR and BRIAN!!!!!!) and garrett yours is coming up in a coupleweeks :) Well, transfers were today and it was really hard to saygoodbye to sister gonzaga. I didn´t think it was going to be as hardas it was. And yesterday in sacrament meeting Presidente França askedme to share my testimony since it was my last day there. THat wastough too. I said goodbye to everyone and got pictures with branch.Baturité is such a neat place and i absolutely love the people there. Good to hear you guys had a fun time at the oregon coast! And i couldactually go for some tillamook ice cream right now :) And yeah you cansend pictures on the computer that´s fine. The only thing is,sometimes they come across too big and i can´t see the whole pictureand it takes awhile to load, but you can try. And I´m not sure aboutBrett´s release date, he hasn´t told me yet. Wow sounds like the wholecommunity is getting married this month! THat´s exciting though, lotsof receptions to go to!!! :) Make sure you tell them all congrats forme! Well, i need to go. I hope everything goes well for everyone thisweek. And good luck with football boys! Wish i could be there to seeyou play, but look at all the practice you´ll get and by the time iget back you guys will be 10 times better ;) I love you all so much and I´m grateful for all your love and supportfor me. I pray for you always!!! The church is true!!!! love, sister ariana salisbury

August 2, 2010

Olá Everybody!!! Wow, it´s the last week of the transfer can you believe it?! I´m notsure what´s going to happen. I think I´ll be transferred and so doesSis. Gonzaga. She thinks that because we´ve been together for 2transfers now and I haven´t had experience anywhere else, whereasshe´s been a trainer and had experience in another area already. Butwho knows, I could stay and another sister could come. We will get acall saturday night to know who goes and who stays (kind of soundslike Step Up 2 ;) Well, it´s been a tough transfer, but at the same time I look back atthe experiences we had with the people and the growth me and SisterGonzaga have experienced and think that I´ve grown a lot morespiritually and my faith and patience was definitely tried. But I wasable to overcome the hard times and I know that I can overcome comemany things with the help of the Lord. I´ve been studying lately about the priesthood, ordinances andcovenants. And I was thinking yesterday in church about the covenantswe make each Sunday. We covenant that we will “take upon us the nameof the Son.” And I was thinking about how I put my name tag on everyday and on my name tag is the name of Christ. I wear His name over myheart every day and I related that to taking upon us the name ofChrist. He should always be in our hearts and it´s an absolute honorto serve here in Brasil in the name of our beloved Savior, JesusChrist. Even though those of you at home aren´t wearing a "name tag,"make sure that Christ´s name is written on your hearts...always! I´mso grateful for this gospel and the blessings we receive from ourloving Father in Heaven. We are literally God´s children, that initself is such a blessing. I´ve also been studying about prayer. Wehave a Father in Heaven who loves us and wants us to communicate withHim. But to do that we need to pray to Him. And something I´m going todo more, I´ve made a goal, that after i pray to wait a little bit andlisten. After a prayer we may be able to receive answers orpromptings, but if we don´t take the time to sit and "listen" we´llmiss that opportunity. Well, you guys are probably having a wonderful time at the beach rightnow. You´ll have to let me know how your trip was. And of course, whenever we try to go on a trip somewhere something has to go wrong onthe farm to keep us from leaving on time. Nice to see things are stillthe same at home :) School starts back up in a little bit, are youboys ready?! :) Football will be fun though, make sure dad gives meall the updates!!! And mom don´t worry, the food was cooked. My leg isfine, it hasn´t been giving me any problems. Oh! I got the news letterand your note mom! Thank you. I love getting the newsletters andreading the message from the presidency and everything else that isgoing on in the ward. Every message so far from the RS presidency hasbeen such a help and strength to me. Each message has been just what Ineeded to hear at that specific time. I love receiving them, so keepem comin :) Hope everything is great for you guys and you had a fun time at thecoast! I love you and pray for you all! Love and miss you tons!!! Love, Sister Ariana Salisbury

July 26, 2010

Hey mom! And for all those reading this, I got an email from a certainbrother-in-law that loves me dearly. He mentioned that i use "haha"and LOL" too much and i sound like a teenager. I probably do, so I´mgonna do my best to not use them. Mom, don´t worry about the package, you´re right it´s just "stuff" :) Well last night topped off my week!!! It was a good, hard-workingweek, with not too many results, but we´re still truckin along. Sostory for you all, yesterday we were making some visits to someinactive members with the branch president and relief societypresident and we were at our last house and the wife said she wantedus to try something. So we go back into the kitchen and she she opensup a pot of i don´t know what. She piles a lot of what looks to be theinsides of some kind of animal. Loads up the plate and says, "here yago"(but in portuguese of course) my companion knew what it was and shewouldn´t eat it. I asked what it was but she couldn´t think of thename in english. but I wasn´t about to turn down this opportunity totry something "different". So i grabbed a fork and went for it. It wasactually really good, tasted like roast beef(it was very moist). Mycompanion couldn´t believe it, she said if you knew what the animalwas you probably wouldn´t eat it...i told her, well as long as it´scooked i´ll eat it. When we got home i looked it up in the dictionary. In portuguese it´s called a tamanduá (i think) andenglish.......anteater!!!!! I couldn´t believe it, but it was good andi´m not sick...yet. Well i only have a couple minutes left so I gotta wrap this up. Sorryit´s not longer, but oh well. It´s getting closer to the end of thetransfer i can´t believe it. I´m already on week 5!!! I think I mightget transferred, but not completly sure. I love it here in Baturitébut i think I´m ready for a change. Well i love you all and hope youguys are all doing great! I love you!!! love ariana

July 19, 2010

Dear Family, Well, another week gone by. Can you believe I´m already half waythrough my second transfer!!! This week was really good, we worked really hard and found a lot ofnew investigators so that´s good. I think the hardest thing thoughabout missionary work is getting the investigators to come to church. No matter what we do hardly any of them come. They´re good at keepingall of other commitments, but when it comes to sunday and going tochurch we have problems. I think the biggest problem though with thisis that they work on sundays, so that´s kinda tough to work with. Me and sister gonzaga are doing good though. Just truckin along doingthe best that we can. The language is still coming, still kinda tough, but I´m doing my best. Jande sent me a picture of Coriann and her soonto be husband! I love it, they look so good!!! She´s super dark too!I´m so happy for her :) That´s awesome about Kirk´s homecoming, i betit was super good! Tell him i got a letter in the mail to him lastweek, so he´ll be getting it sometime soon. That´s so crazy aboutchad!!!!! I´m glad he´s ok, I haven´t read the whole story yet thatjande sent me, i don´t have time to read it right now so im gonnaprint it off and read later. Ahhh you guys are going to the coast!!!THat´ll be fun...but not as much fun if I were there :) haha where areyou guys staying, cape lookout? That´s my favorite place!!! Well, sorry this isn´t very long this week, i spent a little too muchtime writing to my mission president. BUt I love you guys and pray foryou everyday too!!! THank you so much for your prayers and love forme. I miss you!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love, ariana

July 12, 2010

Dear Family,
well this week was better, in a way i guess. We worked hard and I´mseeing improvement in the language. So that´s good :) The work is going alright, it´s really tough right now cuz everyone is onvacation, so lots of parties, lots of people gone on trips...so it´s alittle hard with the work we´re trying to accomplish. But we continueon doing the best we can! We´re working with quite a few familiesright now, so this is really good. THere´s 2 real promising ones thatwe hope work out. The people we´re working with are really goodthough, i love it here in baturité. We were working with an elderlycouple, Eunice and Antonio (but we call him Tonico) :) THey are thetwo sweetest people, i love them so much. We went to visit them ontuesday though and we both had the feeling we were gonna have to cutthem. Eunice knows its true, but she´s catholic and doesn´t want tochange "tradition" but tonico, he´s been to church twice and when wetalked with him he said he didn´t like testimony meeting. THat wasreally tough for us, he said he didn´t want to stop or "give up" iswhat he said because he said he knows its true, he´s prayed about it,but it´s not for him right now. Me and sis. gonzaga both were cryingas we were saying goodbye and leaving. I´ve never felt that way beforeabout an investigator, it was really hard. It felt like my heart hadbeen broken. But we still see them every once in awhile as we passtheir house. :)I got my calendars thank you :) haha kirk is home!!!!! ahhhh that´s soexciting, im gonna write him today and get a letter in the mail to himthis week, i still feel so bad i never wrote him on hismission....That´s awesome that joey got the hustle award! Good jobjoe!!!! as for the time when i get on the computer. Today we´re alittle early cuz we have a lot to do. But usually we get on in theafternoon around 3, which is like 11-12ish your time i think. And yeahit´s probably a good thing i didnb´t get the package of candy cuzthen i´d have to work it all off haha although i have to admit, i missamerican candy. They have good stuff here too though. The weather hereis always the same.......HOT. Nothing more nothing less, just HOT!!!!But i´m used to it so its all good :)We just heard that we´re not having zone conference this transfer, which was really disappointing. But we heard that they´re gonna dothem every 3 months, and i think it´s worldwide for all themissions....but im not positive. THat´s just what we heard from anelder.well, i love you guys and appreciate all the love and support you giveme and all the prayers said in my behalf. I´m defintely seeing theblessings! Thank you so much! oh! So guess what?! Yesterday we show up to church and presidentFrança asks me if i´ll give a talk in sacrament meeting?!?!?!? haha icouldn´t say no either, so...i gave a talk lol it was good i think, ihope at least. Not sure if they understood me, but i did it. Andsaturday night, Ancylia, the relief society pres, asked me if i couldgive the lesson in RS. Haha i just laughed when she asked me, but shewas serious! Lol i of course was freaking out, i told my comp that iwouldn´t be able to do this even if they asked me to do it in english.I had one hour to prepare a lesson. Yep, i was defintely freaking out.But my comp helped me and it went well, of course i was praying likecrazy though! But the Lord does answers prayer.I hope you all have a great week!!!! I love you!!! love,
sister ariana salisbury

July 5, 2010

Hey!

I don´t have a whole lot of time and the computer Im on is not very good, the keyboard stinks, the space bar don´t work very good but i´ll do my best.
Anyways, Kirk is HOME!!!!!!!! Oh my heavens i can´t bellieve it! I feel so guilty i didn´t write him a single letter! Tell im sorry and i will send one next week for sure!!!!!! THat is so awesome. And dad said the parade was really neat. Well, this week wasn´t too exciting and not a whole lot of success....what a way to start the new transfer. A lot of people fell through on commitments and not very many of them came to church. We ended up having to cut quite a few people. So we´re trying to find new ones. We got a lot of new ones this past week, we´ll see how it goes. Sunday was awesome!!! Testimony meeting was so neat.THere was an Elder Johansen that just finished his mission and he came to church with his parents and grandparents. When he walked in he just started to cry. He loved this area so much you could see it. He bore his testimony and his parents did also and the elder translated for them. It was really neat. It made me miss you and dad. I was talking to his parents and they were so neat. THey offered to call our parents so you should be getting a call from them sometime. I wanna say they would call today, but im not sure. :) That was really nice of them. Well, everything is goign good for the most part. Still working on the language. It´s really tough for me, i don´t know why. But oh well, im still studying and trying to get it. I love you all and hope everythign is going well. I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

love,

ariana

ps. if you send a package put pictures of christ on it or something so it doesn´t get opened up. Mycomp said that one of her packages was opened up and they just retaped it.

p.s.s This doesn´t have to be right away, but if you can...i would like a couple of the wonder-tees from THe Boutique. Not white though you can get whatever colors you want. Just not white or cream cuz they will ware out faster. Size medium. Only like 2 or 3 is fine. And none with lace, it´s just the cap sleeve kind. THank you :) i love you!!!!!

June 28, 2010

28 june 2010

Corianne is getting married?!?!?!?!? What?!?!? I didn´t even know she was dating someone. THat is so awesome!!!! Did you get an announcement? wow, i can´t believe it. And Chet passed away? wow, that must be tough. THat´s neat though that the parade will be dedicated to him. And no worries about the flood, i haven´t heard anything about it so im ok :) And yeah the calendars you sent will be good. Wow sounds like joey is pretty much running the farm these days haha i can´t believe he is baling hay. wow. So guess what?! i don´t remember if i told you about the couple we were working with Ancylia and Branco. THey have 3 little boys and one was already baptized. But they were baptized the 19th of june and they are so awesome. Their testimonies are already so strong and they will help this branch so much. And yesterday Ancylia was called to be Relief Society President!!!!! Me and Sister Gonzaga couldn´t believe it. Oh haha and by the way i didn´t get transferred...kinda forgot that part. Im really happy im staying in baturité. But yeah she was called as president. She´s already getting everything ready for it and planning things. SHe´s gonna do an amazing job! Something else that happened this past week. We were walking down the street and we ran into one of our old investigators(we ended up cutting her cuz she didn´t want to change) but anyways her dad had just died like 30 minutes before. SO we told her we would come and visit her and her mom. I think this will be a good time for them to come into the church and change. We went to their house and talked with them, and went over the plan of salvation with them again. We watched TOgether Forever with them also. THat was really good. THe mother said that Luis(the father) knew the gospel was true and he loved us coming to visit. I´m positive he will accept the gospel. ANd if the mother and daughter join the church they can take his name to the temple. THat would be really neat for them. Well, i need to go my time is just about up. Hope everyone has a fun time at the reunion. Tell everybody hi for me and give Grandpa a big hug and tell him i love him. I´m gonna write him a letter, so tell him he´ll be getting one! I love you guys!

Love, ariana

June 21, 2010

Oi!!!
Sounds like it´s a busy time right now for everybody! I still haven´t gotten the package yet, but we only get mail and packages on wednesday´s when we go to our district meetings. Well, the end of the transfer is coming up can you believe it?! This is my last week, I´m not sure if I´ll be transferred or not. We won´t know until Saturday night. I really want to stay here in Baturité at least one more transfer. I really love the people here. But I´ll go wherever the Lord needs me. The Branch is having a hard time right now. We had a meeting with the Branch President and the adults on sunday. President really needs help, the members are complaining about how things are disorganized, but they´re not willing to step in and help and that´s really frustrating. President França is so amazing though, he does so much for the Branch. He has a wife and two kids, a job, teaches seminary tuesday, wednesday and thursday nights(which he has to turn down some work because he´s having to teach seminary because no one else in the BRanch will), every single sunday he drives all over Baturité to pick everyone up for church. Him and his wife clean the church every saturday(the teenagers come sometime to help) but it´s really frustrating that members won´t help out. We´re going to have another meeting on sunday with the adults and try to figure something out.
Well, the language is coming slowly. This past week when we were teaching some people, they mentioned that my portuguese was getting better, so that´s a good sign :) Oh, guess what i made today?! Shortbread Carmel Cookies!!! They´re in the fridge right now, we´re gonna see how they turned out after this. I´m good on peanut butter right now, I´m saving my second one for my next transfer-trying to space it out haha
I´m glad my letters got there, I wasn´t sure what day Father´s Day was so I decided to send the letters soon. I´m glad Father´s Day was good :) I miss everyone lots!
It feels like I had to ask you something, but I can´t remember...oh well, let´s see I´m trying to think if anything really exciting happened this week. Oh! We baptized this family on saturday and they are so great! They´re already so strong in the gospel. It´s a couple and they have 3 kids. One was already baptized in an earlier transfer, the other two aren´t 8 yrs old yet, but the parents are so great, I love them! And the baptismal meeting was amazing. Me and my comp sang a special number and the wife was crying the whole time. The Spirit was strong. I love the feeling I get as I see the change in the peoples´ lives. Well I better go, I love you and hope all is well. Tell everyone hi for me :)
love,
ariana

p.s. i remember what i was gonna ask you. Can you make copies of that paper you have mom, of the addresses of people in the ward and send that to me. It´s the one on your desk in the kitchen and it´s in a clear protector thing. i think it´s just one with all the women´s names. THat would be really nice to have. Thanks! I love you

June 14, 2010

Ok, I don´t have a whole lot of time. But Hi everyone!!!! The weather is always nice here in Baturité :) Um I´m not quite sure how much the contact solution is, but I will check for sure and let you know. I really hope I get the other package, I miss peanut butter! We just finished the first peanut butter last week :( I got some pictures of it, I think you´ll like them. I sent letters to the family last week, so they´re on their way to you. I thought I wrote about my companion already, but I can´t remember. So my companion is Sister Gonzaga and she is Brasilian. She is from Parana. And yes she is hard worker so that´s good. She´s only been out 4 moths and already training me. My comp loved the cookies! She had never had them before and she was telling all the women in the branch about them. So they´re gonna have the recipe for No-Bake Cookies here in Baturité :) And I told President Batt about grandpa in my last letter, so next time i see him i will bring it up again. And yeah I can understand the people for the most part sometimes I look to my companion and ask what they just said, but I can pick things up and figure out what they said. The problem is actually "speaking" with them. I have a hard time just having a conversation with the people. I can teach just fine which is weird I just can´t "talk" with them. But I´m hoping that will come soon cuz i´m going on my 5th week already. And yes it´s winter or going into winter. I don´t know, i barely know what day it is here and i still haven´t figured out which way is north. It´s really hard to tell haha i know that´s really sad. We´re walking so much back and forth and here and there I forget which way the sun had come up that day. Anyways, this week was a little better than last. Last week was awful, we worked really hard and only 1 person showed up to church that we had been working with. So we decided to fast again this weekend and we had more people show up, so that was good. Oh, so I had a dream today when we were taking nap and i was getting transferred but we had to walk to our next area and i stopped at a hotel and i walked past a room and i heard mom´s voice and i go up to the window, and say "mom?" and you open the window and the whole family was here in brasil. It was so weird, but then i go in the room and we were home. Really weird haha well i gotta go, my time is up. I miss you all and love you!!! Sorry i didn´t get everything in your letter mom. But i love you!!! And i´ll write more next week. :)
love,
ariana
p.s. i felt like i had to ask you something but i can´t remember...hmm that´s gonna bug me now. I´ll probably remember once i log off. Oh well...love and miss you!!!!!

**oh and i saw some pics from jande and Rochelle´s site looks beautiful wish i could have been there!

June 7, 2010

Hey everyone!
Well everything is going well here in Baturité! We had our first zone conference this last week. It was really good, I had to share my testimony. All the new missionaries had to share and the ones leaving had to share also. It was really good and President and Sister Batt talked to us. Then afterwards they got us pizza. It was good, but it´s nothing like the states. States is much better. THey have chocolate pizza though and that is really good! :) And I hope Jennifer starts getting better, I fasted for her as well. I hope uncle Brian is doing ok. THat´s scary, he was in surgery...what did they have to put back together? And yes i got the letter from jason. Haha i didn´t know the sausage was made of that, but it´s really good!! And the brigadeiro...mmmm :) OH guess what?! I made no bake cookies today for my companion and they taste just like the ones at home. I was happy they turned out. My comp loves them! Oh and with the pictures can you send the family picture of Todd and Lora´s family and Travis and Meredith´s family, for some reason they are the only two families I don´t have in my photo album. And if you could, send me a calendar, i don´t care what it is. Not something too big, but just something i can see the days of the week and the months. I never know what day it is, it´s sad. haha and if it´s not too much. A list of birthday´s in the family. And speaking of birthday´s we have one this week! CHANDLER HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I´m not there to throw you a big party, sorry ;) Haha hope you have a good day though! Well, the language is still coming, i jsut wish it would come a little faster. I´m trying not to get frustrated though. Oh, i got your package mom. THe one with contact solution and the CTR rings. THank you so much! Sister Batt was going to check if there was another package cuz she thinks there might be one more. If there is I should get it on wednesday. THanks so much for everything! I love all you lots! Good luck with spring ball boys and have fun! I´m running out of time cuz i had to write to President Batt. I wasn´t getting the emails at first so i just hand wrote the weekly letters to him. So that takes up some of my time now. I love you guys! I´m so grateful for this church and the opportunity I have to serve the Lord at this time. Even though it may be hard at times I think of everything that Joseph Smith went through and all the sacrifices he had to make to bring this gospel to the earth again, for US! And more importantly what the Savior did for us. He suffered for everything and died for us. ´The Lord has asked me to give 18 months to serving Him. Christ gave his LIFE for us, so I should be able to give this little amount of time for Him and his people that are searching for the truth. Stay true to the gospel and stay close to the Lord. I love you!

Love,

ariana

May 31, 2010

Oi!!how´s everyone doing? And mom not to get you worried, i´m way ahead of you. Haha my ankles are fine now, Last week i elevated them for a little bit one night and after that they´ve been fine. And yeah, the make-up all i wear is mascara and eyeliner. THe other stuff is sitting in my suitcase, but i´ll pull it out for zone conference haha That´s so exciting that whitney and marissa were baptized! Sounds like there was a huge turnout, that´s good. Oh and the pictures that you´re sending in the photo album, can you send a few of rochelle. I´ve shared her story many times when we teach about the plan of salvation and how families can be together for eternity. I can feel the spirit work through me so much whenever i share that experience. We were teaching this father and her daughter the other day adn we were teaching that lesson. I shared the story about rochelle and showed them our family picture. I started crying and testified that i know we can be a forever family. Adn afterwards the father said he felt something when i was telling my story adn knows that it´s true. So i thought that was really neat. Thanks for sending me brett´s email :) That´s interesting what the president said about the priesthood, maybe i´ll ask brett in my next letter ;) THat´s too bad about jennifer, i really hope she starts to get better. I´ll be fasting for her though! As for the computer, we come to a little internet place and we have to pay. It´s not much, and we use it for one hour. but during that hour we have to email our mission president about our week adn everything. So that takes some time. And guess what?! We got a washing machine!!!!!! We installed it today adn we got to use it. We were so excited cuz washing all our clothes by hand takes quite awhile. And we got new mattresses too. Our others were so worn out. You lay down and it´s like a trampoline. You sink in the middle haha but our others our nice, not too soft, but i can´t complain, we have things pretty good considering our area. Oh and i told you i was going to send pictures but my comp was doing that last week and she sat there for 13 minutes waiting for only one picture to load. So i think i´ll just put a ton on a disc and send it to you.K i have story for you, you all are gonna laugh. So the other night i was getting in the shower and i turn around and there´s a massive cockroach behind the door. How i didn´t see when i first came in the bathroom, i don´t know cuz it was huge. I ran out and told my companion to kill it, but she didn´t want to kill it either haha neither of us had the courage to do it. Haha and we wouldn´t go to sleep until this thing was dead. By the way, these things are so stinkin fast! So after deciding neither of us were going to kill it, we call our branch president to see if he´s busy. Lol he was at the church adn was just about to leave so he stopped by really quick adn killed it for us. Haha i might be a farm girl but i hate bugs, especially ones that are larger than my fingers. Wow, i took a picture of it, but it doesn´t do it justice. The beans and rice are so good! We ate at our branch pres. house yesterday after church and it was sooo good. It was rice, beans, this pork sausage stuff adn this crumb looking stuff. It almost looks liek corn meal, ahh i can´t remember the name of it, it starts with an F though Farinha or somethign like that. Oh and my comp made this amazing dessert the otehr night, oh my heavens. you haven´t lived until you try this, it´s a brasilian thing, it´s called bricadeira. Not sure if i spelled it right, but holy cow is it amazing. It´s this chocolate stuff and then she mixed it with cookies. Mmm im making myself hungry now haha. I´ll get the recipe from her and send it to you next week. I know it has sweet and condensed milk, sugar, butter, cocoa and im not sure what else. But it´s amazing trust me!Oh before i forget, karl and kathi eppich sent me cookies back when i was in the mtc in provo. And everytime i forget to ask you for their address, can i get that please so i can send them a thank you card. Wow, time goes by so fast adn i feel like i can´t get everything done.Well i gotta wrap this up. I hope everyone else is doing well adn school is goign good for the boys. Good luck with spring ball adn keep working hard! The hard work will pay off when you boys come out on your mission. I was just thinking that if i wasn´t used to doing a lot of work on the farm and staying busy, a mission would be a lot harder. So be grateful you boys that you know how to work. I am so grateful for this gospel and all the blessings we receive from it. I have seen the help ffrom the lord so many times already and am so grateful for the gift of the Holy Ghost. We always need to be receptive and listening for the spirit. Otherwise we´re goign to miss opportunities to share the gospel with otehrs or even a simple testimony. Always be worthy of the spirit and you will be blessed throughout your life. The church is true and i love it! I miss and love ALL of you so much!!!!! love, arianaps. can you maybe take some pictures of the farm and send them in that album also, thanks!!

Oi

Oi, from Baturité!!!!!And before i forget. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you had a great day! :) Holy cow is it hot here!!! It was 102 the other day and its really humid, but.....im loving the COLD showers!!! And im not being sarcastic, i really do love them haha i don´t even get to look cute here, it´s too hot to wear make-up and i just pull my hair back cuz its so HOT! Lol its ok though im not here to impress anyone haha me and my comp were actually talking the other day about how when we get home we´ll get to look like girls. I love my area. Im about 2 hours from Fortaleza in a little town...in the mountains. I´m loving it here, although it´s a lot of walking and there´s LOTS of hills. I love my companion. Her name is Sister Gonzaga and she´s from Parana, Brasil. She speaks english, so i was really happy about that. Otherwise i think it would be a lot harder for me on my first transfer. I would go crazy not being able to speak english to anyone. Oh I wish you could all experience this! The people don´t have much here and it makes me so grateful for all that we have. The people are so nice and welcoming. They´re all nervous to talk to me though. My comp has to tell them to ask me questions and talk to me haha. I had my first baptism yesterday, it was so neat and I had to give a talk on baptism in portuguese...but yeah we had been teaching this boy, Wesley, he´s 14 and such a nice kid and he was so excited to get baptized. His older sister is already baptized and we´re working on their mom. She came to church yesterday though, so we were pretty excited about that! So the church here is just a little building and it´s actually a branch out here not a ward. There´s about 50 members and the branch president is so amazing! Haha sunday morning he picks everybody up for church. He has this white, hippy looking van, they call it a combi. Haha its awesome!! He makes about 4-5 trips around the town to get everyone. The church has a font though, so that´s good. It´s just like a massive water trough. But it looks really nice. There´s 4 classrooms and we have a podium for sacrament meeting. I´ll have to take pictures of it so you can see. We are also teaching this couple and they are so sweet. They will be baptized the last sunday of my transfer cuz they have to get married first, but we have that already scheduled for tomorrow! :) We´re working with quite a few people right now and this week we´re going to be really busy with investigators! So i was a little sore from walking, about the second day i was here, but im doing good now. The only thing that gets me are my feet. They are so swollen, just from being so hot! They don´t hurt, just at the end of the day im ready to just lay down. Haha i took pictures of my feet last night, it looks like i dont have ankles. They look like clubs lol not really, but they look chubby. I´ll send pictures next week. The clothes i have are fine and the sandals are working great. The meals here are good...cuz we cook. And since i´ve been here i´ve only had beans and rice once! And that´s cuz we ate at a restuarant with two elders(they had to come out and interview wesley for the baptism). But yeah, for breakfast we have toast with juice or milk. Lunch is our bigger meal, we cook chicken and rice, pasta or something like that. And for dinner we have a sandwich or something. Oh and for dessert...we have these crackers and we put Dolce de leite(with goiaba) it is the most amazing creation on the earth. It is delicious!!! Oh and last night we watched the restoration with a mother and her son. And her son had made this one stuff, i can´t remember what it´s called but it tasted like funnel cakes, but better. Oh my heavens they were good. I think im losing weight though, so don´t worry haha :) Hmm lets see what else...oh our house. We live above a store. So you walk up the stairs and there´s a big room with two tables in the center. THat´s where we study. THen you walk down the hall and to the right is our bedroom, a bathroom, and another room where we keep our suitcases and a rack for our clothes. Then you go to the end of the hall and there´s our kitchen. We have a fridge, a gas stove, a sink and a little cupboard to keep things in. All our food stays in the fridge. We´ve only had one cockroach that was in our room. My comp had to kill it haha There´s no spiders though...yet. There´s ants but it´s not too bad. Umm, oh we don´t have a washing machine so we do everything by hand. There´s a door outside the kitchen and there´s a big patio are with a a big sink and that´s where we do our laundry adn there´s a clothesline out there too. THat´s pretty much it. Oh get this, the taxi´s here are motorcyles. I thought that was a little strange. THere´s a lot of motorcylces here though. And they have cars too. The language is coming, slowly. I can teach lessons, but the frustrating part is not being able to completly understand the people and not carry on a normal conversation. This week me and my companion made a goal to speak more portuguese with each other, and even that is frustrating. She helps me though adn thats good, i just need to have patience with the language and that´s the hardest part. A lot of the missionaries that i´ve talked to have said that the language didn´t come til they´d been out about 6-8 months so that was a little comforting. Alright, well i better get going. Sounds like things are goign good with you guys. I heard about Brian, is he doing ok now? Is jen improving at all? And yes, i´ll ask pres Batt about grandpa. We go to fortaleza this week for a district meeting, i don´t know if he´ll be there for sure. But i´ll ask him next time i see him. Tell Tom and Glenda hi for me. And i´ll be sending them a letter soon. I think i have their address, but just in case can you get it for me please. Good with everything everyone...school is almost out adn that means Working Time!!!! ALthough you guys have already done a ton! I gotta go, love and miss you guys!love ariana

ps. everyone here loves the family pictures!

It´s very hot. When i got here this afternoon it was 85 degrees with the sun shining!!! I love it. Well i gotta go, i´ll email you again as soon as i can. Love you!

May 12, 2010

Hey!Yeah we were all pretty bummed that we weren´t gonna be able to call on mother´s day and then sunday morning in relief society SIster Clark got up and said she would call all the sisters´ mothers for us. I guess she tried calling but you guys were in portland i think she said a brother in law answered or somethign so i figured it was brian or chad. BUt yeah the one you talked to was sister litster. She was in our district meeting on sunday adn got all of our phone numbers. And i talked to her adn she had a premature baby too and his lungs hadn´t fully developed and the doctors had told them that he wouldn´t be normal. BUt he´s 32 now and is doing great! SO that was pretty neat to hear her experience and i told her about joseph. Well, we went proselyting again this past week and we went down town Sao paulo. It was crazy there were soo many people. We didn´t know what to do at first, but once we talked to our first person we got going and i loved it! Well the work is going good adn im learning a lot. I had an interview with my branch president a couple weeks ago and we were talking and he pulled out a bookmark from his scriptures and gave it to me. It was so good, it was a quote from President Hinckley: "Many young women are serving missions. Many are preparing to serve. Not because they aren´t married or have nothing else to do; but because they have a desire to serve and therefore are being called to the work. The reason so many are going is because in the next generation, Heavenly Father will be sending His Priesthood Army to the earth and wants to send them to mothers who have been properly trained and taught in the gospel. What better training can a young woman have than that of serving a mission." I love that quote! Brett is doing really good, i got a letter from him last week and the work is going great he said. :) I don´t have much time, but i love you all and i can´t believe im already goign out into the field on tuesday. Im so excited adn can´t wait to get going. It´ll be hard to get used to at first i think to having a companion, but im thinking it´ll make teaching a little easier. haha That´s so neat that you guys were able to go to stacey´s baptism. Oh and hey, im having chandler get some pics adn if you get a chance can you or jennifer get them developed and send them to me in a little photo album or somethign cuz i didn´t bring enough pics. THank you. I love you guys!love, sister ariana salisbury p.s. 30 minutes is not enough time for email!!!!

May 5, 2010

Hey! No i don´t get to call on mother´s day :( and im not sure if i´ll get to call when i go to fortaleza. I haven´t heard anything about it though. I can´t believe im gone in two weeks, time has literally flown by! K boys you all better get practicing the piano because i usually have to play at the firesides, devotionals and usually every sunday for sacrament meeting. And i was talking to my teacher Irmao petente and he said most likely if the church building has a piano the missionaries will play for church. So get playing! And thing is, for devotionals and firesides you get asked hours before and sometimes you have to do prelude where they give you an arrangement and you have to accompany someone that is singing. But it´s a great opportunity. THat is so exciting that Shay is expecting! Tell them congrats for me!!! DO they know what they´re having? I went to the temple today and I actually put Jennifer´s name on the prayer list, but is she doing better?? And thanks mom for sending those rings, that´s a great idea! Um i can´t really think of anything that you could send. If i knew exactly what the weather was going to be like in fortaleza i´d probably tell you to send a few different shirts. My clothes are fine here, but im worried it´s gonna be really hot once i get there. But we´ll see how things play out. Oh something you could maybe send, some contact solution. Its very expensive down here. One of the elders in my district had to buy some and it cost around 30 reais for one bottle. That´s awesome that stacey got baptized, i didn´t even know she was planning on getting baptized. Well we go out proselyting again this week. THis time we go down town sao paulo. SO it´s going to be way more busy! I´m excited though! :) That´s so cool Travis had training with Elder Ballard, and no we didn´t see elder Holland. We were hoping we woudl cuz he was in sao paulo, but he was too busy. Well i gotta send out some more letters, but i hope all is goign well! Oh and guess what i had for the past two days?!?! Cucumbers and vinegar!! They were so good! and today for lunch they had some delicious tomatoes!! i was in heaven :) and i was thinking, man back home they´re just barely starting to plant the garden. Tell joseph that i ate a lot of cucmbers for him ;) Anyways i better go, i love you guys! Tchau! Love Sister ariana salisbury

April 28, 2010

Hey everybody! How´s evrything going?! Sounds like you´re all staying busy on the farm putting in circles and all the wiring. Keep up the hard work boys and keep helping mom and dad out! That´s so awesome that you called into the relief society presidency! You will do great! I always loved listening to you give lessons in RS. You always had great stories to share with the lessons. You will do a fantastic job on your first lesson as a second counselor :) Chandler is going to PROM?!?!? WHat?! that is so cool! YOu´ll have to send me pictures....he didn´t even email me to tell me the news. HOw did he ask her? That´ll be fun. And i hope he does well playing the piano for the choir, you´ll do great bud you always do! Good luck :) Garrett, sounds like you´re quite the hitter! THat´s awesome you got a Triple!! And it was against othello?! Nice job dude, wish i could be there to see you play, but i´ll be there when you´re in high school and you´ll be 10 times better!! :) Joey...you´re so cute!!! haha i miss saying that to you bud. Sounds like you´re doing really good in baseball too! Keep up the great pitching, i hear you strike out a lot of guys! That´s my boy! And the high school baseball team qualified for districts?? wow, didn´t see that one coming, but good job chandler! HOpefully you guys get a little farther this year than you did last year. Do you think you have any chances? Well I got to shake Elder Russell M. Nelson´s hand and he spoke to all of us missionaries here at the CTM. It was the neatest experience! although when i played called to serve, i totally messed up, i was so stinkin nervous! My hands have never shook so much in my life!!! But the talk he gave was awesome. He talked about missioary work and what we need to be teaching. And he made a great quote, he said, "The Lord uses the unlikely to accomplish the impossible." I thought that was so cool because it made me think that the Lord is using me in a way that someone else maybe couldn´t have done it. I sometimes wonder why i was called to Brasil, but as i keep thinking about it, it just makes me that much more excited to get out to the field and start serving to see the people im going to be serving and the lives that will change because of this gospel. We went proselyting last friday and i just have to say that was one of the best experiences i´ve ever had! OUr district went out around town and i went with two other elders so i wasn´t by myself. The first two ladies we contact seemed really interested, but didn´t take a BoM. I thought for sure they would, we were kind of bummed when they said no, but we kept going. Then about 10 minutes later we´re walking down another street and we see the same two ladies again. They waved at us and we waved back. And then we hear, "sister! elders!" we turn around and it´s the lady we talked to. We went back to talk to her and she said she changed her mind and wanted the BoM. We were so excited! SO we told her a little more about it and how it can bless her and family and to read and pray about it. She was really excited and so were we!! We each got 2 BoM and we all got to give them out. The last one i gave out was really neat. The entire time i was praying that we would find people to give them to and the last one i had to give away we had already been everywhere and i was thinking of where we should go. We were walking through the park and i see these two ladies sitting on a bench adn i said, "i want to go talk to them" So we head over there and we noticed that they had kids too! It was perfect! I started talking to them and told them about the BoM and how it has blessed my life as well as my family´s. They seemed pretty touched and i just bore my testimony that if they read it their lives will be blessed greatly adn that it helps families so mcuh. It was one of the greatest experiences i had and i love it! We go once more before we leave. I have less than 3 weeks here, can you believe it?! i can´t! It has gone by so fast. oh, and i got this worked out now. There´s a bakery across the street and we can print off our emails there so i do that and read my emails that way and then email you so i don´t waste my 30 minutes reading and i can already know what i want to type :) But i have 2 minutes left so i better go. Keep up with everything and sorry jen, chad and trevor i didn´t get an email out to you. BUt i will next week. I wanted to get as much as i could to the email that gets sent out to everyone. I love you all!
